A graceful and versatile footballer who was the WAFL leading goalkicker early in his career as a forward and Sandover Medal runner up in his 10th season as a clever tap ruckman.  A schoolboy champion who made his league debut at 16, Oliphant was a fine high mark, a fast ground player and an accurate drop kick. In a 224-game career he won two club fairest and best awards and represented WA six times.
