A football success from the start.  In 1985, guy McKenna was part of a rare Teal cup (under 18) success for WA and was one of eight players from the team to play AFL.  Sought by several Melbourne clubs, he was secured by West Coast for the 1988 season and became an immediate regular, finishing second in the fairest and best in his debut year.  In the 1990’s, McKenna was part of one of a football’s great half-back lines with John Worsfold and Glen Jakovich.  Worsfold was the muscle, Jakovich the imposing colossus and Mckenna the brains with silky skills.  He had uncanny ability to read the play and dispose precisely, prompting one scribe to call him “football’s first quarter back”.  Mckenna was forced into premature retirement after 2000 season with a degenerative neck problem.
