Already a legend when he arrived in Perth, he left with his reputation enhanced, if that is possible. In addition to his Sandovers and fairest and bests, he led the club’s goal-kicking over his four seasons in Perth and played for WA in 1938-39. Arguably the most impressive individual trophy cabinet in football, he is still rated as one of the greatest rovers. He was captain-coach of Subiaco in each of his Sandover Medal years and had also been captain-coach at Fitzroy in 1936. Bunton rounded off an extraordinary career playing for Port Adelaide, coaching North Adelaide and even umpiring in the SANFL.
