Braver than he needed to be and often far braver than what was good for him. An inspiration both at Claremont, where he started his career in 1975, and at Carlton where his courage made him an instant favourite when he joined the Blues in 1981. Built like a rag doll, Ken Hunter played like a colossus, hurling himself into aerial duels from any angle. He took some heavy knocks along with some of the bravest and best marks in his time.
He stated started as a defender but his willingness to compete under any circumstances eventually took him to Carlton’s forward line. There was no better example of his bravery than during the 1982 VFL grand final when he was ironed out by Richmond’s Jim Jess in the opening minutes but returned to the field to be one of Carlton’s best.
