Phenomenal goal kicking machine before World War II, George Doig was Tony Lockett, Jason Dunstall and Gary Ablett rolled into one.  He was known as the “Bradman of football”.  He hung up the boots at the end of 1945 with a career tally of 1103 goals from 202 games – a remarkable average of 5.46 goals per game.  Lockett, the AFL record holder, kicked 1360 goals from 281 games at 4.84.  Collingwood legend Gordon Coventry kicked 1299 in 306 games at 4.24.  At 174cm and less than 70kg, the wiry Doig was shorter than other great goal kickers.  In 2002, at 89, Doig was paid the ultimate tribute when he was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.
