One of the toughest defenders of his era. Started his career at South Fremantle but transferred to East Perth in 1918. Played centre half-back in Phil Matson’s famous team of the 20’s that completed a sequence of five premierships. Also a member of the famous WA team that won the 1921 carnival in Perth. Against Victoria, he nullified great Carlton champion Horrie Clover. It was WA’s first carnival victory.
