West Perth had been in the football wilderness for more than 25 years after its 1905 triumph, Jack McDiamid had established himself as a class player in the 1920’s, and in the 1930s he was one of the leaders of West Perth’s revival. The club emerged from obscurity to win the 1932 flag under coach Jack Cashman. McDiamid and his brother Norm, Wally Buttsworth, Max Tetley, Don Marinko, Ted Flemming and Ted Tyson. It marked a turning point for the club, which won three premierships in the 1930’s. McDiarmid played for WA mainly at centre half-back or on a half-forward flank. But, at West Perth, the strongly built big man dominated the ruck.
