Nicknamed Bub because he was the baby of his family, Carlisle Jarvis was a champion centre half-back during a halcyon period for East Fremantle when it won seven premierships. Rival players wondered how he didn’t win a Sandover Medal. He was a spectacular aerialist in all conditions with a precise pass and a consistent, rangy clearing kick and also clever at ground level.
East Perth’s Harry Gepp said: “I think he plays with four hands.” Subiaco’s Tom Outridge added: “I think he plays with four hands.” Subiaco’s Tom Outridge added: “I’d rather play against any South Australian or Victorian than I would against him.” Educated at Fremantle Boys’ School, he also represented WA at cricket.
